Julia Kamin

Julia is a researcher based in New York City and is the Director of Impact & Evaluation at Listen First Project. She works with organizations that leverage social science to improve civic discourse and mitigate toxic political polarization both on and off line.

At Listen First Project, Julia co-directs the Goals and Measures Program that developed and houses the Social Cohesion Impact Measurement (SCIM) tool - a resource empowering bridging groups and other institutions to evaluate and measure the impact of their programs. Julia works with partners in the Listen First Coalition to customize the SCIM tool to meet each organizations’ measurement needs, as well as track data trends across the bridging movement.

Julia also serves as a research consultant for other organizations in the bridging movement, including Civic Health Project. Previously she was research manager at Citizens and Technology Lab, Cornell University, where she conducted field experiments in collaboration with online communities to test the effectiveness of prosocial interventions.

Julia received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. In her dissertation work, Julia used agent based models and experimental designs to examine the dynamics of information polarization in social media. She has a Bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
